"I'm going to be a doctor," young Elizabeth Blackwell tells her family. She knows it won't be asy. In 1840, there wew no women doctors in America. But Elixabeth was raised to think for herself.
The medical schools she applies to won't accept her. Doctors angrily tell her to give up. Finaly, when she is accepted at the Geneva Medical College in upstate New York, Elizabeth finds out that it was the result of a joke.
Despite the odds, Elizabeth Blackwell did become a doctor. And by pursuing her own dream, she gave others women the chance to become doctors.
